What is Oncology?

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) defines oncology as a branch of medicine that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. It includes the fields of medical oncology (the use of chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and other medications to treat cancer), radiation oncology (the use of radiation therapy to treat cancer), and surgical oncology (the use of surgery and other procedures to treat cancer).



Cancer Diagnosis, Prevention and Treatment.

Cancer is one of the most feared diseases and is sometimes called “a silent killer,” because in some cases there are no obvious signs or symptoms. Our goal is to prevent cancer rather than have to treat it by performing standard yearly screening tests. If you have a family history of cancer-related diseases, there are a wide variety of genetic tests that can be performed to determine if you or your children may be at higher risk.
